yes it is all over!
A great time had by
all.
A big thanks to Paul and Ian and a little thanks to Danny (according to
Paul and Ian anyway..) But I did enjoy Danny's speech and the joke he
couldn't use in his speech.

1976 Physiology Exam
. You didn't pass it last time, do you think you would do any better
today?
For those on
nostalgia trip:
Meet 1.30 pm Apex hotel. Depart 1.40 prompt regardless of who is not on
the bus. Tour of library , museum and clinical skills centre . Talk on
"where we are and where we are going" from the Dean. Then reception
hosted by the medical school during which we will present a donation. A
particular thank you to those not coming who have contributed to the
donation...most generous. Still time if any remaining non-attendees
wants to send a cheque. It looks as if we will have about 60 donations
in total raising about £1500.
Coach will leave Ninewells at 4.30 regardless of who is not on
it!...sorry to be bossy but military precision is essential. Arrive
students union 4.47 for a look round and a drink which will go on the
year club slate. Depart union 5.45 regardless...back to Apex for 6.
Please note the hotel wont allow check in before 2.30 but they do have a
baggage store.
Dinner:
Pre dinner champagne is served at 7.15pm. We will take our seats at 7.41
and Ian will conduct an "ice breaking" quiz. Bottle of champagne for the
winning table. A string quartet will play throughout. After Dinner Danny
will make an amusing, thought provoking reflective speech then I will
say a few words and introduce our guest David Taylor. The men will then
retire to play snooker, smoke Havanas, drink Brandy and talk about sport.
Not sure what the women will do at that stage,
Cost:
Includes pre dinner drink , table wine 1/2 bottle , string quartet ,
gratuities and guest expenses. ....£54. What a bargain!!
In addition those on the Nostalgia trip pay £8 per head and we have
added a £25 donation for year club members only...not guests. Most of
you have paid the £25 deposit per person which can then be deducted.
Please check the attached spreadsheet to see your balance due . ( For a
couple with one year club member both going on the nostalgia trip who
have paid 2 deposits the balance will be £99). All calculations were
done on my abacus so by all means e mail if I have made a mistake
We have "rounded up" the costs and inevitably there will be a sum left
in the account but this is a necessary evil to deal with any unexpected
costs...and preferable to a shortfall which would be hard to correct on
the day. There will probably be a few hundred pounds carried forward to
2020 if things go to plan...but the cost per person is negliable.
Please also check partner details when you look at the spreadsheet. Some
of you have nameless partners!
How do I pay?
Wire the money to sort of code 83 20 03 Acc no. 00602896
or send check made out to "80 year club"
to 70 clunky gds

the money in the account before the end of August .
Well that's about it. Look forward to seeing you all on 17th,
Cheers!
Paul.
21st July 2010
Paul is looking for a donation of about £12 per head from all the people
at the meal to provide a donation to the Medical School. Contact him if
you think it is a good or bad idea.

Just a reminder to ask if you have booked the hotel yet? To summarise
the "special rate" is £ 127,50 for a double per night B and B. The code
to quote is Med1709-001.
However if you call today they have rooms at £115 if you ask for the
best deal. Both these rates include last minute cancellation policy and
pay later.
If you are prepared to prepay there is a rate of £101 , B and B but no
cancellation option. That what I have opted for,
A block of rooms is being held for us till 17th July so book before then
to be certain of accommodation.
All the plans are otherwise progressing and we will be touch in the next

the spreadsheet and let me know if there are any amendments. Details of
spouse/partners names would be appreciated for the seating plan. Also
please check the ninewells trip column. As it stands if there's a 0 or ?

bus is a 49 seater and we are right on the wire with this number).
Well I hope you all enjoy the summer no doubt trimming toning and
tanning so we all be impressed in September.
Cheers
Paul.

The main event will be dinner on Friday evening. David Taylor has kindly

On Friday afternoon there is an optional nostalgia visit to Ninewells
where we will be shown how the modern student is educated and shown
plans for the new £8m refurbishment. On the way back the coach will stop
at the students union where the president has agreed to “sort something
out” for us!
The core is deliberately minimalist to allow plenty free time to chat,
wander around and relax.
Checklist.
1. Please send a deposit of £25 per person. Either post a cheque made
out to “80 year club” to Paul Chadwick, 70 Cluny Gdns, Edinburgh, EH10

Ninewells visit. (The med school need numbers and we need to organise a
coach.) Either include this info with your deposit or e mail to

Paul and Danny,
September 13th 2008
Early discussions going on about speakers, venue and schedule amongst
the committee.
Just a brief posting to let everyone know the cogs are beginning to slowly turn. Graeme and Mary are working behind the scenes trying to fill the gap in e mail addresses. Please keep your eye on the "wanted" list on the website and help us to contact as many of the year as possible. Suggestions for the venue and date are welcome. My own view is that it would be fitting to return to Dundee or near Dundee to see how things have changed and have a "nostalgia trip". I am told the union is unrecognisable now...more like a boutique hotel! Craig Murray, the current Rector (and colourful character) was a student in Dundee at the same time as us and would make an entertaining dinner guest. I also wondered about asking David Taylor (Obs and Gynae) who I recall as a friend of the year....anyone know where he is? It would be good to have somewhere booked in the next few months. Keep the chat coming! Paul.
If you have some suggestions go to the chat forum and say what you think...
